FLYER WARRIORS – STORY

Since the official indoctrination in 2019, The Philadelphia Flyers Warriors program has grown from the original 22 registered players to almost 100 registered players.

WARRIOR STORY

Officially founded in December 2018 with its first learn-to-skate clinic and adopted as an official affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers two months later, the Flyers Warriors program has achieved unprecedented success on and off the ice. On the ice, participation has grown exponentially, with “A”, “B”, and “C” level rosters. An affiliate of USA Hockey’s Warrior program, the Flyers Warriors won their tier championship at the 2019 USA Hockey Warrior Classic in Las Vegas and will be the host team at the 2021 Warrior Classic in the Philadelphia area.

All Flyers Warriors players are ambulatory veterans of the United States armed forces. In order to be eligible to play, participants must have a Veterans Administration certified disability of at least 10 percent. Our ranks include veterans from every branch of service. Previous hockey experience is not necessary, as we have players at every ability level and tailored instruction.

The Flyers Warriors are coached by Brad Marsh, a veteran of 1,086 games during his NHL playing career. The assistant coaches are Rob Baer (director of youth and amateur programs for the Philadelphia Flyers) and Bob “the Hound” Kelly (837 NHL games played, and scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal in the 1975 Finals).
